Larry Backus is the Director of Multifamily in the Property Tax division at Invoke Tax Partners. Highly regarded as one of the premier multifamily valuation experts in the industry, in his role Larry will continue the excellent service of Invoke’s multifamily portfolio of assets and work closely with business development to continue the growth of Invoke’s multifamily assets under management. With his extensive knowledge and tenure, Larry will share best practices and his passion for the fiduciary responsibility Invoke has for our clients. As a certified property tax instructor for the former Texas State Property Tax Board, his teammates gravitate towards him naturally as a mentor and coach.

PAST

With 35 years in the property tax business, Larry has had the opportunity to serve on both the private and public sides of the ad valorem valuation argument. These experiences and relationships allow him and his team to successfully advocate solutions. After beginning his career in the public sector as the Deputy Chief Appraiser at a Metro Central Appraisal District of North Texas, Larry transitioned to consulting in the private sector. Over the course of his career at regional boutique and national property tax consulting firms, Larry has represented multifamily assets throughout the country for REITS, pension funds, private equity entities and family offices. From trophy assets, value add opportunities, and student housing, Larry’s wealth of industry knowledge combined with his aggressive appeal approach drives the results his clients rely upon.

EDUCATION AFFILIATIONS

Larry is a graduate of Texas Tech University with a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Finance and holds a CMI with the Institute for Professionals in Taxation.

OTHER

Larry and his wife enjoy Big 12 football and attend as many Baylor and Texas Tech home and road games as they can. In addition, they are about 70% complete of fulfilling a bucket list dream of seeing all 50 states.
